Senior Policy Officer

Fixed-Term Appointment until 31 March 2012
Grade: P02 £30,987 to £33,510

Working as part of a small team, this new role has been developed to support the Health & Social Care Integration Lead in how the Council responds to the NHS White Papers, 'Equity and Excellence - Liberating the NHS'; Healthy Lives, Healthy People, our strategy for public health in England'; the Localism Bill; the Health and Social Care Bill 2011 and Transforming Social Care, resulting in new ways of working within an environment of significant financial pressures resulting from the public sector settlement.

You will lead on research for new systems and processes for the Adults and Social Services group in order to support policy development. You must have significant knowledge of current NHS policy and practice. Knowledge of local authority policy would be an advantage.

As well as demonstrable experience of interpreting new legislation and being able to write briefings and succinct reports for the Transitional Health and Social Care Group, you will have excellent communication skills and be highly motivated.

In liaison with key School personnel you will develop, implement and manage the international and postgraduate student recruitment strategy for the School of Textiles and Design.

You will also work with the academic team on the Rest of UK student recruitment.

Educated to degree level, you will be required to provide advice and guidance to staff on recruitment and associated marketing and communication issues.

Experience of event management, production of publicity materials and the ability to analyse market research data would be an advantage.

Applicants should have excellent communication skills together with the ability to work within a team.

The post will be based at the Scottish Borders Campus, Galashiels.

Working as part of a locally based team, our Neighbourhood Officers provide excellent customer service to residents within a designated area focusing on improving services and maximising resident satisfaction.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all tenant, estate and community matters within your remit. You will provide tenancy advice to residents and take a decisive approach to resolving problems including neighbour disputes, antisocial behaviour, and breaches of tenancy conditions.

Applicants need to be committed to resident involvement and consultation, seeing residents as partners in the drive to improve services and ensure that estates are clean, safe and attractive environments for residents and visitors.

Previous front-line customer service experience is required, as well as familiarity with information technology including networked computer systems and email. You should have a basic knowledge of housing law, and an understanding of welfare benefits
