Senior Policy Officer

Fixed-Term Appointment until 31 March 2012
Grade: P02 £30,987 to £33,510

Working as part of a small team, this new role has been developed to support the Health & Social Care Integration Lead in how the Council responds to the NHS White Papers, 'Equity and Excellence - Liberating the NHS'; Healthy Lives, Healthy People, our strategy for public health in England'; the Localism Bill; the Health and Social Care Bill 2011 and Transforming Social Care, resulting in new ways of working within an environment of significant financial pressures resulting from the public sector settlement.

You will lead on research for new systems and processes for the Adults and Social Services group in order to support policy development. You must have significant knowledge of current NHS policy and practice. Knowledge of local authority policy would be an advantage.

As well as demonstrable experience of interpreting new legislation and being able to write briefings and succinct reports for the Transitional Health and Social Care Group, you will have excellent communication skills and be highly motivated.

Salary - £ 26,376 (pro rata) per annum

The successful candidates in these new positions will be part of Communications Service (Public Affairs Unit) and be responsible for monitoring the policy context, using research skills to analyse data and be able to provide briefing material to enable an accurate picture of the challenges our service users face to be widely understood.

You will work for the Head of Public Affairs but with the support of our research department and operational colleagues, you will bring an enthusiasm for communicating complex issues clearly both in writing and face to face.

Training in a relevant academic subject and established skills of quantitative analysis are essential. An appreciation of qualitative analysis is desirable.

These are part time positions working 20 hours per week for each post; Hours can be negotiated across the week to fit with other commitments.
