Starting salary £53,059 per annum.
The Law Commission is an independent non-departmental body sponsored by the Ministry of Justice, committed to ensuring the law is fair, modern, simple and as cost-effective as possible. Our dedicated teams of lawyers and research assistants review the law and recommend reforms.
We're looking for two lawyers to join our criminal law team on fixed term contracts of 30 and 40 months respectively. Both roles promise a varied and challenging workload, which will see you working under the direction of the Commissioner. You will contribute to the research, thinking, discussion and drafting on a range of criminal law projects, as well as taking a particular role on either our project on contempt or our project on fitness to plead.
Whether you are a legal academic, solicitor or barrister or have a law degree and other equivalent relevant experience, these posts offer a unique opportunity to work on challenging legal and policy questions. Your background will mean that you're confident analysing the law, identifying problems and developing excellent solutions. You will have a practical approach but also be able to evaluate and describe complex theoretical arguments and to produce academically rigorous pieces of writing.
As you'll be working closely with stakeholders, excellent presentation and relationship building skills will be paramount. Last but not least you must be able to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a team while managing your own development.
