Two Assistant or Associate Professors in Railway Engineering

DTU Transport is the largest transport research institution in Denmark, and one of the largest university-based transport research departments in Europe. DTU Transport focuses on basic research, applied research, as well as innovation, public sector support and dissemination with the aim of implementing research results in society. The research areas are broadly within the transport domain based on different methodological disciplines, and activities are planned in order to utilise the interdisciplinary strength of the department.

DTU Transport is responsible for the study line in Railway Technology under the MSc in Engineering in Transport and Logistics, and has a close cooperation with the Danish railway sector. Due to the growth of research and teaching in railway engineering we hereby announce two positions as Assistant or Associate Professor in railway engineering. The increased focus on the rail sector is part of the strategy plan of the department.

Assistant Professor
The Assistant Professorship is position where we expect the candidate to qualify for an Associate Professorship within a 3-5 year period (or sooner). The candidate is expected to contribute to both teaching, research and applied projects.

Applicants must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) with focus on railway engineering and have shown promising research abilities, including ISI publications. Candidates are expected to have a broad knowledge on railways and rail traffic engineering.

Associate Professor
The Associate Professorship in Railway Engineering is a permanent position. The candidate is expected to contribute to both teaching, research and applied projects, including project management, being course responsible and advising students writing bachelor, master or PhD thesis (the latter in the beginning maybe as co-advisor) as well as advising BSc students on internships.

Applicants must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) with focus on railway engineering and must have demonstrated excellent research at an international level in the subject, and documented teaching qualifications at a level obtained by holding a post as an Assistant Professor or similar. Candidates are expected to have a broad knowledge on railways, rail traffic engineering, and railway research at a high international level.

The railway study line
One of the candidates is expected to coordinate the rail study line as well as other rail-related teaching activities at DTU Transport (at the BSc, MSc and PhD level). Since railways are one of the key focus areas of the department, the candidate is also expected to be part of DTU Transports study council. Danish skills will be preferred for this candidate.

Opportunities
DTU Transport offers an exciting research environment, where you will have great influence on the planning and solving of tasks. Most research, projects and teaching are solved in teams, with focus on knowledge sharing and development of competences. We have an informal work environment with mutual flexibility.

The rail area is in growth both at the department but also in general in Denmark where several large investments in infrastructure improvement, new rail lines and introduction of ERTMS level 2 on the national railway network have been decided. Due to the close interaction between DTU Transport and the rail sector this provides great opportunities for the application of research results.
