Responsibilities and tasks
The professor is expected to take a leading role in the Department's experimental activities within the area of nanophotonics structures and devices. In particular, the department wishes to strengthen its activities within the area of semiconductor optoelectronics and photonics.

The department has state-of-the-art optical laboratories, including ultrafast spectroscopy, and access to cleanroom facilities, and the professor will benefit from collaboration with established groups within the area of fabrication (quantum wells and quantum dots, photonic crystals, lasers, etc.), theory of light-matter interaction in nanostructures, modelling and design of nanostructured devices, and ultra-high speed optical communications. A start-up grant for supporting staff and purchase of new equipment is negotiable.

The successful candidate is expected to take a lead position in teaching at the bachelor-, master- and PhD levels.

The applicant must be internationally recognized with documented research and research leadership in several of the following areas:

Optical characterisation of nanophotonics materials, structures and devices;Ultrafast spectroscopy of semiconductor structures and devices;Physics of quantum dots, quantum wells, photonic crystals, or plasmonic structures;Physics of nanostructured lasers, single-photon sources, or optical switches;Integrated photonics;Application of nanostructures in information, communication, sensing or sustainable energy technologies.

The applicant must also demonstrate teaching experience, including supervision of Ph.D. and M.Sc. projects as well as training of postdoctoral researchers.

In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to

scientific production at international level, research potential and ability to lead and develop a research team; the ability to teach;the ability to promote and utilize research results; an all-round experience basis, including international experience; the ability to contribute to development of the department's internal and external cooperation;track record in attracting funding to the research area;visions within the research area;visions for innovative possibilities.
