Background

City University London is looking for a experienced and enthusastic web developer to work as part of an in-house development team. As the central web design and development group within the University, the Web Team works with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to develop and support the University’s web presence.

The role is predominately front-end focused – you’ll need strong HTML, CSS and especially JavaScript skills – but some knowledge of a server side language (preferably PHP) is also required. You’ll be developing efficient, standards-compliant websites and apps using our CMS, extending and enhancing our code base and supporting the University’s marketing teams and content editors.

Responsibilities

Contributing to the on-going development of the primary University websites www.city.ac.uk and www.cass.city.ac.uk and intranets. Providing second-line support for the web content management systems: Serena Collage, Squiz Matrix and Wordpress.Supporting and developing University web services and applications such as Funnelback (enterprise search) and Form Assembly (web form management).Supporting and developing Squiz Easy Edit Suite (the content editing front-end for Squiz CMS) using OO JavaScript.

Person Specification

You'll have an excellent knowledge of web technologies: XHTML/HTML5, CSS, JavaScript and XML/JSON, experience with OO JavaScript and JS libraries (e.g. JQuery, Prototype), be able to create standards-compliant, hand-coded, cross-browser HTML and CSS, experience in a server side language (ideally PHP), knowledge of web standards, usability and accessibility, experience developing with web content management systems.

Desirable skills/experience include: Unix command line, knowledge of mobile/responsive design, experience with version control, experience with agile development practices, knowledge of MySQL and Oracle databases, Photoshop/Illustrator/Fireworks skills
