Postdoctoral Research Assistant (Molecular genetics of lignin biosynthesis in Arabidopsis)

Ref: LS0111

Location: James Hutton Institute

This 10 month position in the group of Prof. Claire Halpin requires an excellent and highly motivated researcher with a PhD in plant molecular biology or plant genetics/genomics and, ideally, with previous experience of working with Arabidopsis. The work will also involve the production of transgenic Arabidopsis lines for Tap-tag analysis of protein complexes and experience in these techniques will be a distinct advantage.

The project is funded by the Global Climate and Energy Project (GCEP), Stanford and is a collaboration with Dr Gordon Simpson (University of Dundee). The applicant will join a small team of researchers using mutagenesis and other techniques to manipulate lignin biosynthesis and connected metabolic pathways in the model plant, Arabidopsis. The ultimate goal is to discover how to optimize the saccharification yield of plant lignocellulose for biofuel production.

The successful applicant will join research groups that are part of the College of Life Sciences, University of Dundee, but that are based at the near-by James Hutton Institute (JHI), thus allowing them to benefit from expertise and resources at both institutions. Prof. Halpin’s laboratories are well-resourced and both the university and JHI have excellent core facilities.
